QC Warriors

We are Warriors for Education, Sports, Culture and Arts

History

History was created in 2020 when the QC Warriors became a reality. An idea, name and vision conceptualized by former President, Shareeda Ali-Martindale (2018-2020).

We launched a new LOGO, A New CONCEPT, New GEAR but most importantly we embraced what we already knew. That here at Queen’s College, we are Excellent, and we are WARRIORS!

The Track and field Uniform was completely rebranded, and a fan/supporter kit was introduced with a T-shirt and cap. This kit can be worn not only at track and field events or school tours but at any competition where you are representing and supporting Queen’s College.

Over the past few years, we were silently winning everything. Cleaning up competitions, from debates to chess, football, cricket, swimming, golf, scholarships and exhibitions to name a few but we were always humble about it and we weren’t blowing our own trumpets. That had to change. We are not only Track & Field Warriors, but we are academic WARRIORS, CHESS WARRIORS, DEBATING Warriors and the list goes on. We even have silent warriors too. The ones who want to represent their school and feel proud for it but are scared to come forward and they need all the encouragement they can get. The vision behind a QC Warriors is that you are warrior in spirit first and whenever you step out to do anything, you approach it with that WARRIOR attitude even if you don’t win, you would have fought till the end and that is all that matters.

student
guidelines

Assembly is held every morning at 9am in the main hall except when there is form level assembly.

Students must be present for morning and afternoon registration. If a student misses either one of these check-ins, they will be marked as absent. This safety measure was put in place to ensure that children are accounted for throughout the day.

A school day is broken up into seven periods with a 40-minute lunch break in the afternoon. All students will be required to take 13 subjects covering multiple areas of study such as, mathematics, languages, science, history, visual arts, industrial arts and physical education.
Parents will receive midterm reports to give them a sense of how their child is doing throughout each term. Examinations will be given at the end of each term and ALL students must take final exams. Students are then promoted based on these final exam grades.

Stay tuned for further updates on orientation process and dates.

The mission of the Girl Guides Association is “to enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.” It provides a healthy environment for girls to come together to share their experiences and learn and grow together. By promoting leadership, education and advocacy, girls feel empowered to speak up for themselves and speak out on the issues affecting them and their communities. Through this program, members come together to carry out volunteer work and do various fun activities, hereby forming lifelong bonds.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Barbados, the Rotaract Club is a youth-led service organization aimed at community service and professional development. Members serve their community in many ways through environmental projects, working at shelters and retirement homes, providing food and clothing to homeless persons and charity fundraisers. Notable projects are the RotaGift initiative held in December 2020, which provided food hampers to the Shelter for Abused Women, and the annual ‘Breaking Bread Making Bread’ initiative held at Queen’s Park where members distribute food, clothing and books.
Key Club is a non-profit organization aimed at serving the community and improving the wellbeing of all people. Clubs exist in United States, Costa Rica, Germany, and Malaysia to name a few, and nations across the Caribbean. Through Key Club, students learn leadership and sportsmanship while building strong relationships. It gives children a sense of community and allows them to focus their time and energy on positive activities. Activities include, beach clean-ups, charity fundraisers, community projects, Feed the Homeless programs and volunteering at retirement homes and children’s homes. There is also the opportunity to interact with members from different cultural backgrounds at the Caribbean District Convention (DCON) and International Convention (ICON) usually held in the United States.
The goal of the Environmental Club is to empower students to become true advocates for environmental change. It is open to anyone who has a passion for preserving and protecting the environment while raising awareness on the various threats facing our planet today. It provides opportunities for students learn about green technology, conservation techniques and solve local environmental problems. Most of the meeting hours are used for fun activities and projects which could include anything from making natural body scrubs or homemade water filters to beach clean-ups, recycling or working on our school vegetable garden.
The QC Media Club is one of the newest clubs to Queen’s College and is open to students interested in anything from journalism and reporting to film and photography. Here, your child will gain hands-on experience with regards to directing, producing, interviewing and editing. They will also learn about what it takes to create a news story. Primarily, this club is responsible for covering school news and sports, but members also assist departments and other clubs with marketing and social media content in order to help them get their message out and promote the school.
Does your child have a passion for acting, poetry, singing or directing? Then look no further! Here, students have the opportunity to learn about all the technical aspects of theatre while being able to create and perform together. Students participate in Improv (improvisation exercises), movement exercises and vocal training while learning about the production aspect like makeup, props, stage management, costume design and set design. This environment promotes creativity, teamwork and communication which can boost self-confidence. The Drama Club offers a fun-filled experience where students can step out of their comfort zones and truly hone in on their talents.
Motto: Distinction through persuasion. Open to new and seasoned debaters, the Literary and Debating Society is a club where students learn how to do research, present arguments and think on their feet. By conducting weekly debates on current global issues, students will be able to develop their critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork skills. Students will also have the chance to compete at the annual National Secondary Schools’ Debate competition hosted by the Barbados Motto: Distinction through persuasion. Accreditation Council. Although debating is at the core of this club, it is not the only focus. Students also get to enjoy “literary lunchtimes” where they discuss themes and language of poems, short stories and even songs.
Led by Mr. Edwards and Mr. Hoyte, the Engineering Club is open to students from the 4th to 6th form levels. It provides a space for students to explore their creativity through construction, design, science and technology. Students get to work on amazing projects in hydraulics, mechanics and carpentry. Through this club, children can sharpen their skills and have the opportunity to represent Queen’s College in the World Skills Barbados Competition.
